Grace is seeking an Associate Pastor

The Associate Pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Millersville contributes to the mission of glorifying God by cultivating followers of Christ. He will be responsible to the Lord Jesus Christ for leading the men, young adults, and students of the church in remaining faithful to this vision and proclaiming the Gospel through sound biblical teaching. He is to cooperate with the lead pastor and the board of elders in providing pastoral care for the congregation, devoting himself to prayer. He will serve with a plurality of elders providing spiritual oversight of a congregationally governed church. The work of the Associate Pastor will be supervised by the board of elders, under the authority of the congregation.

Responsibilities

Church Ministry: 

  • Develop significant, growth-producing personal relationships with members of the church family.

  • Organize and facilitate the Growth Group Ministry, recruiting and training leaders, as well as helping connect members to these groups.

  • Be available to preach in place of the Lead Pastor and assist in the ongoing care of the congregation which may include visitation, providing counseling, conducting weddings and funerals.

  • Assist the Lead Pastor in the overall programming of the church, aid in special projects, and share in the visitation responsibilities as requested by the Lead Pastor.

  • Actively pursue external training/equipping for both self and current/future leaders.

  • Participate in an annual performance evaluation and review of a compensation package with the Board of Elders.

Men’s Ministry:

  • Lead a consistent Men’s Ministry equipping men to be godly leaders in their homes, at the workplace, and in their communities.

  • Facilitate Men’s Bible studies throughout the year and provide additional resources for men to grow in the faith.

  • Meet with men in the church spending time in prayer and mutual accountability. 

Young Adult Ministry:

  • Oversee a Young Adult Ministry, teaching and encouraging young adults to grow in their faith.

  • Recruit, equip, and enable volunteers to share in the leadership of the Young Adult Ministry.

  • Develop a comprehensive ministry plan that involves seasonal events, retreats, and service opportunities for young adults.

  • Seek to integrate young adults into all phases of church life.

Student Ministry:

  • Design a Student Ministry focused on equipping students for spiritual growth by teaching God’s Word, utilizing small groups, empowering students to serve, and partnering with parents.

  • Recruit, equip, and enable volunteers to share in the leadership of the Student Ministry.

  • Plan and communicate an annual calendar which includes a teaching schedule, special activities, and church-wide events providing students the opportunity to grow to love God and others.  

  • Encourage parents to assume the biblical role as primary disciplers of their students and lead them in this by providing opportunities for them to grow in their parenting skills.

Administration:

  • Fully participate in pastoral staff meetings and one on one meetings under the direction of the Lead Pastor.

  • In conjunction with each ministry team, prepare and manage an annual budget to advance each ministry area.

  • At the end of each month, submit to the Board of Elders a monthly ministry report for all assigned ministry areas.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Meet the biblical qualifications for elders listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4.

  • Demonstrate a growing relationship with Jesus Christ exemplified by a love for God and others.

  • Present a teachable spirit marked by integrity and humility.

  • Manifest gifts in teaching and leadership.

  • Display a strong ability to delegate responsibilities and train leaders for ministry.

  • Be able to clearly articulate personal doctrine positions which fully align with the church’s doctrinal statement.

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Bible or Pastoral Ministries.

  • Be an officially ordained minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Clear background and reference checks (i.e., criminal records, child abuse and neglect, character and ability).

Preferred:

  • Masters degree from an accredited Bible based seminary

  • Minimum of 5 years of previous Christian church ministry experience
